Recital

A jury-rigged pull-toy, constructed from a child’s foot stool and small wheels is fitted with a zoetrope mechanism: motor, light, lens, fan. Positioned opposite a chalkboard, this small being receives a “lesson” of sorts from an invisible instructor/authority. Pointing out the obvious or a mistake this repetition mimics much of the early learning process, or learning by rote.

Mixed media: child’s foot stool, wheels, chalkboard, motor, light bulb, film, copper, mirrors, fan, lens, vinyl record, velvet, 36 × 24 × 48 inches.
