I have been selected to participate in “The Arctic Circle 2013 Summer Solstice Expedition,” a unique, international, research-based art and science residency that takes place aboard an ice-class vessel.

From June 14 to July 2, 2013, myself and twenty three other artists, educators, and scientists will live and work aboard a Barquentine Tall Ship, exploring the international territory of Svalbard, a mountainous Arctic archipelago just 10 degrees from the North Pole. We will make landfall several times a day to experiment, make art, and experience the extreme conditions of this locale. The severity of this landscape will provide me with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collect and create new material and have my artistic “battery” recharged by the 24 hours of daylight and the company of 23 brilliant creative practitioners. Can’t wait!
