Making Conversation
Two cinema machines sit on opposite sides of a large (6 x 6 foot) shoji screen. Like the inhabitants of historical Japanese homes and palaces, these two “beings” are separated psychologically and physically by the screen, yet continue to hold a tense “conversation” on the space of the screen. The two machines echo each other’s actions, as if in a mirror, projecting the exact same gesture (knife throwing) to one another, but at different times.
